Four Hurricanes Taking Part in Hockey Canada Summer Camps

Hockey Canada announced Monday the rosters for the upcoming Summer Showcase to be held in Calgary, Alberta from July 26th to August 6th and four Hurricanes will take part. The Summer Showcase will see the Under-17 and the Under-18 age groups compete.

Hurricanes prospects Calen Addison and Josh Tarzwell will take part in Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp in preparation for the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge to take place in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, from October 30th to November 5th. A total of 111 players – 12 goaltenders, 36 defenceman and 63 forwards – will participate in practices and games on one of six different teams.

Addison, 16, was the second overall pick in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft by the Hurricanes. The Brandon, Manitoba product appeared in four regular season games and three playoff games last season with the Hurricanes. He registered 15 points (8g-7a) in 15 regular season games with the Brandon Wheat Kings Midget AAA team after recovering from a broken leg.

Tarzwell, 16, was selected 24th overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. The Red Deer, Alberta native collected 18 points (9g-9a) along with 14 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAA. He also added three points (1g-2a) in five post-season games with the Chiefs. Tarzwell made his WHL debut on January 23rd against the Moose Jaw Warriors and appeared in two games with the Hurricanes.

Current Hurricanes players Jordy Bellerive and Brett Davis were named to Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp. A total of 44 players – four goaltenders, 16 defenceman and 24 forwards – will participate in practices and three Red-White intrasquad games.

Bellerive, 17, was selected by the Hurricanes second overall in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. The North Vancouver, BC, product had a productive rookie season with the Hurricanes collecting 36 points (11g-25a) along with 75 penalty minutes in 65 games finishing second in WHL scoring among 1999-born players. Bellerive represented Canada-Red at the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last fall.


Davis, 17, was selected in the fourth round (78th overall) in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft by the Hurricanes. In his first full season in the WHL, Davis collected nine points (5g-4a) along with 17 penalty minutes. The Oakbank, Manitoba native represented Canada-White at the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last fall winning a Gold Medal.
