Canes Beat Everett Silvertips 4-3

Egor Babenko and Cory Millete each had two goals as the Lethbridge Hurricanes beat the visiting Everett Silvertips 4-3 Wednesday night at the ENMAX Centre.

The victory was the second straight against a U.S. Division team this season for Lethbridge, but most importantly it ended a three game losing skid.

Everett did open the scoring in this hockey game when Devon Skoleski beat goalie Jayden Sittler midway through the period to make it 1-0 Silvertips. That score held up for the rest of the period.

In the second, the Hurricanes got things going. Cory Millette scoring his 8th goal of the season 2:13 into the period to even the score at 1-1. A few minutes later Russian Egor Babenko, who's having a great first year in the WHL, scored his 10th of the year to give Lethbridge a 2-1 lead. The Tips came back to tie things up when Yan Khomenko scored to even the game at 2-2. Before the end of the period though, the Hurricanes regained the one goal cushion with Egor Babenko putting home his second of the game and 11th of the season to make it 3-2 Canes through 40 minutes of play.

In the third, Cory Millette put Lethbridge ahead by a pair with his 9th of the season and second of the game. That made it 4-2 Hurricanes. That was also a shorthanded goal and a big one as it turned out to be the game winner. Everett though wouldn't go quietly. Noah Juulsen got the Tips to within one with just over three minutes later. The Silvertips though couldn't manage the equalizer this time and the Hurricanes ended up holding on for a 4-3 victory.

The win improves the Hurricanes overall record to 13-8 on the season. Everett did hold a 34-29 edge in shots on goal in this game. Neither team managed a power play goal. The Canes went 0/2 and Everett was 0/2.

This is the second time this season the Hurricanes came home after losing losing three on the road, only to put an end to that skid. The Hurricanes little home stand will continue Friday (Nov. 20) when they host Prince George. The Canes will be looking for a little revenge, after the Cougars beat the Canes in the P.G. at the end of a long six game road swing a few weeks ago. Game time Friday is 7:00 pm MST from the ENMAX Centre.

Thanks,
Pat
